My Experience
Where I got it: Gauge gave it to me for this review. I’ve worked with them a lot and know them personally, but I wasn’t paid for this review.
Needles I used: 3 mm (between US 2 & 3)
Blocked Gauge I got: 28 sts/38 rows = 4"/10 cm
My Thoughts: The most special part about this yarn is the genius way that colour is arranged, but the base is great too — it’s super soft as expected, really durable (I’ve been wearing my Saxe Point Socks since they came out years ago & I still haven’t gotten any holes!) and it’s got a pretty shine that makes textured stitches pop.
I knit my swatch with 3 mm needles (between US 2 & 3) & got 28 sts/38 rows = 4”/10 cm. The sock gauge is 38 sts/48 rounds, so much tighter, and the hat gauge is 29 sts/40 rounds. I think it’s wonderful at all those gauges.
What I might design with it: This yarn & pattern were part of last year’s Gauge Dye Works Summer Yarn + Pattern club, so the yarn and the Sun & Moon sock pattern were designed for each other. It’s available for everyone now! This skein has mirrored blue fades with a pop of yellow in the middle of the skein for the colourwork. You can see the skein divided up in the third photo above. I also knit a Dissent toque out of a skein of Sun, so check out my blog post on how I split up the yarn to get that just right.
Where you can get some: Shop on the Gauge Dye Works website. They have new special stuff in their shop all the time, so if you see something you want, it’s a good idea to grab it before it’s gone.
