KnitOvation x Strange Brew

Sweater Design Magic

You probably already know and love the amazing design duo, Alexa and Emily of Tin Can Knits. Among many other accomplishments, they created a colourwork yoke sweater recipe called Strange Brew that gives instructions and examples for creating an infinite variety of yoke pullovers. It’s more like a reference book than just a pattern or recipe and not only have I knit one of the example patterns in the book, I’ve also used it a bunch of times while I was designing my own sweaters. It’s such a useful reference!

Right now, Emily and Alexa are embarking on a very cool project — designing a Strange Brew sweater in public! They have been going live on Instagram to describe the process and it’s fascinating to learn about how they approach getting started.

Giveaways!

To make this celebration of colourwork sweaters even more fun, they’re hosting two colourwork-themed giveaways, including one for a copy of KnitOvation and one for a $200 gift certificate to Tanis Fiber Arts! Just sign up for their email newsletter to be automatically entered in both giveaways.

I love the cute sketches shown below that they shared in their recent email newsletter about this project.

Have you knit a colourwork yoke sweater? Tell me about it in the comments! What was the pattern? What colours did you use? Top-down or bottom-up?

This morning I cast on a new secret yoke sweater design in Sweet Georgia BFL + Silk DK, so I’ll be knitting along with this Strange Brew design-along too!
